Water sport in the morning, white sand at Pandawa, the cliff temple at sunset, dinner on Jimbaran beach.
The southern peninsula in one day, arranged so it finishes with your feet in the sand and a plate of grilled fish in front of you.
It opens at Tanjung Benoa, where the water is flat all year and every water sport on the island is run off the same beach: banana boat, jet ski, parasailing, sea walker. You pick on the day and only pay for what you actually do.
Pandawa comes next, reached through a limestone cut with six statues carved into the rock face, opening onto a long white beach with room to spread out. Then Uluwatu on the cliff at the southern tip, three hundred metres of drop below the temple wall, with the Kecak fire dance in the amphitheatre as the light goes.
Dinner is on Jimbaran beach: a table on the sand, fish picked from ice, charcoal and the tide coming in.
South Bali is fifteen minutes from the first stop. From Ubud, allow an hour and a half.
Banana boat, jet ski, parasailing or sea walker. Chosen and paid for on the beach, so nothing is wasted.
Sunbeds and warungs along the sand. The water is calm enough to swim most days.
Keep bags closed and glasses on a strap. The macaques on the cliff path take things and trade them back.
Around a hundred men chanting with no instruments at all, timed to end as the sun does. Seats are worth booking ahead.
Tables on the sand. Prices are per kilo and worth confirming before the fish goes on the charcoal.
